GDAC Artist Micro-Grants

PURPOSE

GDAC’S ARTIST MICRO-GRANT program will award individual artists of various disciplines up to $500 per grant to complete a creative project. Designed to encourage the many musicians, actors, poets, visual artists, writers, and designers of our community, artists of all backgrounds and practices are encouraged to apply.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for ARTIST MICRO-GRANTS, applicants must be:

  • 18 or older

  • A resident of Denton County

  • An artist working in any media including musical and performing arts.

  • A Member or Artist Member of the Greater Denton Arts Council in good standing. To become a member, visit dentonarts.com/membership.

ARTIST MICRO-GRANTS Guidelines

A maximum grant award of $500 will be awarded per artist. Projects and programs must be art or art oriented, occur in Denton or Denton County, and can be applied to general expenses associated with artistic practice, including, but not limited to, studio rental, production costs, exhibition related expenses or supplies, or other materials needed to complete an arts project.

Projects for this year’s grants cycle must fall within the dates of July 1, 2024 – June 2025.

In keeping with the goals of the Texas Commission on the Arts, projects that encourage or enhance cultural diversity and/or serve underserved populations are strongly encouraged to apply.

Funds will NOT be awarded for the following:

  • Fundraising initiatives or for-profit events

  • Medical expenses or deficit reduction

  • Capital improvements and brick and mortar improvements.

  • Political or sectarian activities or for organizations that prohibit accessibility.

  • Scholarships or tuition to institutions of higher education

  • Artists may submit only one grant application per granting year.

HOW TO APPLY

Completed grant applications and supporting materials must be emailed to Krissi.oden@dentonarts.com or be delivered to the Greater Denton Arts Council at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, 400 E Hickory, Denton, TX 76201 by May 20th 2024 at 5 PM.

Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Early submissions are strongly encouraged.

GRANT REVIEW PROCESS

The Grant Review Committee, consisting of community representatives at large, will evaluate and review applications. Funding recommendations to the GDAC Board of Directors will be based on, but not limited to, the following criteria:

  • Artistic quality

  • Goals & results of the proposed project

  • Community impact

  • Accuracy and completeness of application

Artist Micro-grant applicants may be contacted with additional questions or request for interview with the Grants Review Committee.

The GDAC Board of Directors will make final decisions concerning funding. All grant applicants will be notified of acceptance/denial by Friday, June 9th, 2023, Contracts will be sent out the following week and must be signed and returned by June 23rd, 2023.

PAYMENT OF MONIES

Grants awards will be distributed via mail or can be available for pick up at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center.  

IMPORTANT DATES

April 22, 2024 — Grant applications available online

May 24, 2024, 5 PM — Deadline for applications

June 18, 2024 — Panelist recommendations presented to GDAC Board of Directors

June 21, 2024 — Applicants notified of acceptance/denial & grant contracts distributed by email/ mail

July 12, 2024 — Signed contract returned to GDAC and checks issued to artists

30 Days after completion of project; no later than June 30, 2025 — Grant reports due

APPLICATION MATERIALS

Grant applications, supporting materials, and final reports must be emailed to krissi.oden@dentonarts.com or be delivered to the Greater Denton Arts Council at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, 400 E Hickory, Denton, TX 76201 by the deadlines stated above. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Early submissions are strongly encouraged. Organizations and artists in receipt of grants who do not submit a complete evaluation form by stated deadlines will be ineligible to receive funding in the following grant year cycle.
