The purpose of this department is to be a dynamic
resource for the enrichment of the cultural and scholarly life in the North Texas region.
The department shall promote literacy in the performing arts and nurture future generation
of dance and theatre artists, educators, advocates and audiences by developing and
maintaining undergraduate and graduate programs of high quality in both dance and theatre
arts.
Major goals are to continue to provide top quality education in the dance and theatre
arenas and to promote their brand new BFA program. The department wishes to expand its
presence in the community outside of the university campus and while raising awareness,
they hope to also raise funds to help complete the current building renovation plans.
The department chair is Sandi Combest. The advisory board is inactive at this time during
their renovation. There are approximately 40-50 subscribers and the yearly estimated
audience is 6000-7000. 1999-2000 operating budget is $40,000 for maintenance and
operation. The Theatre department was started in 1930 and the Dance and Theatre
departments merged in 1984.
Annual events include Start the Applause (a season sneak preview) and 6-8 productions from
comedies and dramas to dance events and musicals.
For calendar or program information, contact Donna Kruse, Box Office and Promotions
Manager at 940-565-2428.
Admission to events is possible through season or individual ticket sales. Dance and
Theatre Arts presents a faculty-directed production known as the Main Stage series and
student-directed projects known as the Lab Series and First Stage productions. New plays
have been offered as readings as well. Student and Faculty choreographed concerts complete
our season of entertainment. During the renovation we have performances at a variety of
locations on and off campus.
