Since its formation in 1970, the Greater Denton Arts Council
(GDAC) has adhered to its founding mission, which is to nurture and improve the artistic,
cultural and educational quality of our community. The Council operates the Center for
the Visual Arts (CVA), which houses two public art galleries, crafts
rooms, a dance studio and a large multipurpose hall. GDAC has also completed a $2 million
renovation of the Campus Theatre which is
now home for Denton's performing arts organizations.
Through its fundraising arm, The
Arts Guild (TAG), the Council has distributed
one million dollars over
the past decade to underwrite public arts programs and support area groups.
GDAC is funded primarily through private contributions,
and membership. GDAC administrative offices are
located at the Center for the Visual Arts 400 E. Hickory, on the corner of Hickory and Bell.
The Campus Theatre
is located at 214 W. Hickory.
